The Pelino's Family History

Pacentro, Italy - Population 1,500 - is the small town in Italy where the Pelino family lived until 1949. Located in the mountainous region of Abruzzi. Pacentro is the hometown of singer/actress Madonna's grandparents. The Our Lady of Lareto barefoot race is held there every September. Racers run barefoot down the stony mountainside towards the finish!

Buffalo, New York 1960 -The Pelino family immigrates to the United States in search of work. While my parents, aunts and uncles worked, Nonna stayed home to cook and watch after the children. She used to cook in the basement of our house. My favorite memories are of the whole family sitting down to a huge table made from a rows of boards on makeshift legs. Nonna would serve polenta directly on the boards!

Buffalo, New York 1980's - My brother and I learn how to make the family sauce using fresh ingredients from Papa's background garden. Papa showed us how to pick the ripest peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms for the sauce.

Raleigh, NC 2000 - Pelino's Sauces are sold for the first time on local North Carolina Supermarkets. Thanks to my Nonna and Papa Pelino I never forgot the secret to making great, flavorful italian pasta sauce.

We hope you enjoy our sauces as much as my family has for decades.
